Elmwood, WI – Since the 1970s, this small town of 800 people in Pierce County has been home to hundreds of UFO sightings. My grandfather was the town doctor for 50 years and much of my childhood was narrated by his colorful stories of night calls to patients who experienced unexplained phenomena. These stories have captivated my mind much through my life, and in 2023, I teamed up with The New York Times to create a dispatch from the 44th annual UFO days festival, photographing locals who still celebrate these encounters – and grandpa’s visits – today.
